Samaire Armstrong at 19

Samaire Armstrong is an American actress that was born in Japan, but most people that have heard of her would likely know here from the television series The O.C.  It was not the first time that she came to prominence in show business, but it is probably her landmark role to date.

That being said, to only look at her from that point of view would be wrong for the simple reason that she did a lot of work before her days on that show.  In fact, her first television credits come from the year 2000 when she was only 19 years old.

Party of Five

It started with the television series Party of Five which was a teen drama series that ran from 1994 until 2000.  It was well-known at the time and gave many actors and actresses good credits for their resume, amongst them Jennifer Love-Hewitt.  Armstrong appeared on the show when it was just about over, but her role as Meredith in one episode gave her an important credit that allowed her to cut her teeth in the business.

Freaks and Geeks

Her next role that year came in two episodes of the sitcom Freaks and Geeks, a television show that was produced by critically acclaimed movie creator Judd Apatow.  The show starred such greats as Seth Rogen and Jason Segel, both of whom have gone on to have great careers in film and television ever since that time.  Armstrong acted as Laurie in both episodes of that particular show.

That’s Life

Finally, Armstrong finished off the year as Brittany in That’s Life, a series best looked at as being a cross between drama and comedy.  Although it can be argued that this cast did not accomplish as much as the casts of the other two shows and indeed this is proven to some extent by the show only lasting two years, Armstrong’s appearance on this show gave her four credits in that year.  That is not bad for a 19-year-old trying to claw her way into the industry.

Lessons Learned

Although you may have become a fan of Armstrong later because of her work on The O.C. or even her appearances on various silver screens across the country, it never hurts to go back and take a look at the brief work she did as a teenager before she ended up getting any of the parts that really cemented her status as a bona fide actress.
